Abstract

This session will explore the importance of integrating psychosocial and medical interventions in the treatment of stimulant use disorders. Participants will learn about evidence-based practices, including therapeutic techniques and pharmacological treatments. They will develop an understanding of how to effectively address the complex needs of individuals with stimulant use disorders, with emphasis on a holistic approach to treatment. Attendees will gain practical tools and insights to enhance treatment and improve outcomes for patients who use stimulants or are in recovery from stimulant use.

Objectives

  • Understand the principles of Motivational Interviewing: Gain a basic understanding of the principles and techniques of MI and how they can be applied to enhance motivation for change.
  • Review evidence-based medical interventions: Learn the latest medical interventions, including pharmacotherapy and behavioral therapies, that are effective in treating stimulant use disorders.
  • Explore integration strategies: Discuss practical strategies for integrating MI with medical interventions to create a cohesive and effective treatment plan for individuals with stimulant use disorders.
  • Evaluate case studies: Case studies will be reviewed to demonstrate the application of integrated approaches in real-world clinical settings.

Free CE credit of 6.0 hour for AMA, ANCC, and LSW/LCW/LPC/LMFT will be offered to those who attend.

Requirements include attendance for the duration of the session and completion of a course evaluation provided at the end of the session.

PHYSICIAN (CME)

The University of Pittsburgh designates this live activity for a maximum of 1.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

NURSING (CNE)

A maximum of 1.0 nursing contact hours will be awarded. Participants will be able to claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the program.

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, University of Pittsburgh is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program.
