Agenda
SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention, and referral to treatment) is a comprehensive and integrated approach to identifying and providing services to individuals with substance use disorder, as well as to individuals who present as being “at risk” to developing substance use disorder. The goal of SBIRT is to reduce and prevent health related consequences, disease, accidents and injuries that might be related to substance use. The goal of this training is to provide an overview of this evidence base approach to health care providers, nurses, social workers, and other community workers so that this continuum of care can be applied.
Objectives
- Identify why SBIRT is important and effective
- Explore how to conduct screening and brief interventions
- Understand the risk levels identified in screenings
- Observe examples of SBIRT in a medical setting
Agenda
Drug use and its resulting health effects can change as new trends and drug formulations emerge and become more widely used. Understanding trends in our rural area can help identify patterns of substance use, associated effects, and how to meet the needs of those struggling with substance use disorders in our communities.
Objectives
- Learn how local substance use trends impact people who are using substances
- Understand how emerging drug formulations affect the drug supply and contribute to accidental overdose
- Identify how various substances impact a person’s health and behavior
